The Academy of Life Underwriting (ALU) is an organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities for professional life insurance underwriters. ALU is a not-for-profit corporation staffed and managed by a team of more than sixty volunteers, all with backgrounds in the life underwriting or medical fields. ALU operations are overseen by a Board of Directors with members drawn from the Association of Home Office Underwriters (AHOU), the Canadian Institute of Underwriters (CIU) and the ALU Executive Group.
The Academy of Life Underwriting produces a series of four professional exams. Successful completion of these exams plus a supplemental curriculum of outside studies leads to the professional designation, Fellow, Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU). Over the past thirty years, more than 1,981 ALU students from twenty-two countries have earned the FALU designation. In addition, ALU offers on-site and web-based educational seminars, an annual management issues forum and a survey group focused on life underwriting topics.
On The Risk, the Journal of the Academy of Life Underwriting (OTR), serves the professional information and continuing education needs of AHOU and CIU members and professional life underwriters worldwide. For more information about OTR, including subscription information, please visit the OTR website at www.ontherisk.com.
We welcome your visit to the ALU website, and hope that the information presented in these pages will add to your life underwriting knowledge.
