The Life Underwriting Board (LUB) is a subsidiary board of the Association of Home Office Underwrites (AHOU). The 8 member board is comprised of the 2 Immediate Past Chairs and the current Chair of the Canadian Institute of Underwriters (CIU), 2 Immediate Past Presidents and the current President of the AHOU, the immediate past chair of the ALU and the immediate past editor-in-chief of OTR. The ALU Board Chairperson rotates among the most recent Immediate Past President of the AHOU or CIU or the immediate past chair of the ALU, on an annual rotation basis.

Purpose:

The LUB is established and empowered to oversee and work with the various individual North American underwriting committees and provide a central focus on issues as they apply to underwriting, research, promotion of risk selection, communication and visibility. The board provides a central and single unified voice to other industry organizations, regulators and the media.

The board also defines the criteria and the granting of Certification for professional qualifications/designation for risk selection.

Responsibilities:

The board oversees the activities of the following committees:

  • The Academy of Life Underwriting (ALU)
  • OTR, Journal of the Academy of Life Underwriting
  • Academy of Life Underwriting Survey Committee

And is also responsible for the..

  • Adjudication & presentation of the Outstanding Achievement Award.
  • Maintenance of the Guiding Principles for the Underwriter
