ALU TEXTBOOKS
ALU textbooks for the April, 2011 ALU exams may be downloaded in PDF file format from this website. There is no charge for textbook material downloaded from the website. Adobe Acrobat Reader software is required to read files in PDF file format. The Adobe Acrobat Reader software may be downloaded below and installed from the Adobe website without charge. You may read the PDF textbook files on your computer, or print them out for your own use. Please note that the Essentials of Anatomy & Physiology, Fifth Edition, textbook is not available in PDF format from the website. The textbook may be purchased from the ALU using the ALU Order Form, or may be purchased online from Amazon.com.
If a student requires or prefers a hard-copy ALU textbook, it may be purchased from the ALU Administration Office using the ALU Order Form at nominal cost plus actual shipping charges.

There are two textbooks for the ALU 101 Examination. The first textbook is: Basic Life Insurance Underwriting, 4th Edition. Students are responsible for the entire ALU 101 text.
The second textbook is: Valerie C. Scanlon and Tina Saunders, Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology, Fifth Edition, F. A. Davis Company, 2003. Students are responsible for selected readings as outlined in the introduction to Basic Life Insurance Underwriting, 4th Edition.

ALU 201:
There are two textbooks for the ALU201 examination. The first textbook is Intermediate Medical Life Insurance Underwriting, 3rd Edition. Students are responsible for the entire ALU201 text.

ALU 301:
There are two textbooks for the ALU 301 Examination. The first textbook is: Advanced Life Insurance Underwriting, 4th Edition. Students are responsible for the entire ALU 301 text.
The second textbook is: Valerie C. Scanlon and Tina Saunders, Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology, Fifth Edition, F. A. Davis Company, 2003. Students are responsible for selected readings as outlined in the introduction to Advanced Life Insurance Underwriting, 4th Edition.
In addition to the assigned reading materials, ALU 301 students will be expected to have general knowledge of: (1) medical abbreviations and terminology, (2) normal values for commonly encountered laboratory tests, (3) basic electrocardiographic patterns and their significance, (4) general anatomy and physiology to the degree consistent with day-to-day underwriting, and (5) commonly encountered diseases and impairments.
